‎“Nokia” to launch smartphone that you can fix yourself

Nokia intends to launch a smartphone that users can repair themselves. The smartphone called Nokia G22 – developed by the Finnish manufacturer HMD Global – is a standard smartphone with a 6.5-inch screen and a 50-megapixel main camera, according to what was reported by “CNBC”.

The phone’s exterior and interior that make it special, consisting of a recyclable plastic back that can be easily removed to replace broken components.

Equipped with iFixit tools and repair manuals, the user can remove and replace the phone’s back cover, battery, screen and charging port.

Adam Ferguson, head of product marketing at HMD Global, said that this process will cost an average of 30% less than replacing an old phone with a new one.

Smartphone companies are increasingly making phones last longer amid pressure from regulators to make electronic devices more sustainable.

Lawmakers in the European Parliament, for example, are calling for legislation that would force manufacturers to give users the “right to repair,” which refers to calls from consumer advocates to enable users to repair their devices.

This comes within the framework of the European Union’s endeavor to shift to a so-called circular economy by 2050, which makes its countries able to re-employ, repair, reuse or recycle almost all material goods to reduce waste.

The G22 Edition – which will be released in the UK on March 8 – will start at £149.99 ($179.19).

Replaceable parts can be purchased individually from iFixit, for the battery it will cost £ 22.99, the screen about £ 44.99, and the charging port £ 18.99.
