Statistics Authority: Saudi Electricity consumption up 4.23% in ‎‎2021‎

The Saudi General Authority for Statistics revealed an increase in electric energy consumption by about 4.23% to reach 302 terawatt-hours in the year 2021 AD, indicating that electric energy production grew by 3.35% to reach 359 terawatt-hours compared to 2020 AD.

The Authority explained that the per capita share of electrical energy consumed in 2021 AD recorded an increase of 6.98%, compared to 2020 AD, when it reached 8,841 kilowatt-hours / person.

The share of the subscriber also witnessed a slight increase by 0.47% in 2021 AD, reaching 28.662 kWh / subscriber (Figure 2).

The available capacity for power generation reached 83,036 MW in 2021 AD, an increase of 4.23% from what it was in 2020 AD.

The year 2021 AD also witnessed an increase in the peak load by 3.04% compared to what it was in 2020 AD, when it reached 64.161 MW (Table 1).

The authority added that the residential sector accounted for 47.25% of the total electric energy consumption in 2021, followed by the industrial sector with a rate of 19.47%, while the commercial sector accounted for 15.09%, followed by the government sector with a rate of 12.64%, then the agricultural sector with a rate of 1.88%. Finally, the other sectors increased by 3.67%

The western region accounted for the largest share of electric energy consumption for the year 2021 AD by 93.92 terawatt-hours, or 31.14% of the total consumption in the Kingdom, followed by the central region by 91.47 terawatt-hours, or 30.33%, then the eastern region by 83.28. Terawatt-hours, at a rate of 27.62%, and the lowest consumption was for the southern region, at 32.89 terawatt-hours, at a rate of 10.91%.”
