Engineer Abdullah Al-Abdul-Karim, Governor of Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), revealed; The Kingdom is the largest producer of desalinated water in the world, with a daily production capacity of more than 6.6 million cubic meters of sea water through systems operated and maintained by national cadres, as the largest producer and operator of seawater desalination production systems in the world.

He indicated that the water desalination projects implemented at the level of the Kingdom exceed the value of 60 billion riyals, as they aim to deliver services to 76 cities and villages, with additional water production quantities of more than 4.7 million cubic meters per day, through transmission lengths of more than 4,700 km, and adopting qualitative projects such as mobile production barges with a capacity of 50,000 cubic meters.

He added, through tweets posted on his Twitter account, that the projects are of great importance based on their ability to meet the growing water need, and keep pace with the goals of Vision 2030 for the quality of life as giant transportation and storage systems have been built to pump water with unprecedented transportation pressures through pipes of length 426 km, and to altitudes of more than 2,200 m, with quantities exceeding 550 cubic meters per day.

He said: “With the support of our wise leadership, the competencies of Desalination are continuing their journey of leadership, achievement and development, and we are proud of the Emir of Asir region launching a set of infrastructure projects for the water sector, as an extension of the package of projects that were completed in the past five years, by the grace of Allah and thanks to the leadership of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, we were able to complete the giant Water transmission systems projects in the Asir region, to keep pace with the water need in the region, on time and amid extremely difficult circumstances, due to the enormity of the implementation work, technically and structurally, in high mountainous terrain, and the challenges of the Corona pandemic and its repercussions.

Al-Abdulkarim explained that these projects supply more than 25 governorates and centers in the Asir region with desalinated water, and meet the goals of sustainable development, in the context of the package of projects implemented in the past five years, to build advanced and giant production, transportation and storage systems, and according to the latest technologies and innovative solutions in Desalination industry

Where he confirmed that the Corporation has doubled its production capacity of desalinated water from the systems it owns and operates to 6.6 million cubic meters per day, at an increasing pace with the replacement of technologies and the development of new systems, with the aim of reaching by the end of the year 2025 AD to 7.7 million cubic meters per day.

The Corporation succeeded in significantly reducing carbon emissions by more than 37 million tons annually, reducing energy consumption, and reaching new global figures that had not been recorded before, by achieving 2.7 kilowatt-hours for the production of a cubic meter in the systems, according to what was stated by the Governor of Saline Water Conversion Corporation.
