The world’s second-richest man has sold his private jet, following criticism from climate activists on Twitter.

Bernard Arnault, founder, chairman and CEO of luxury goods group Louis Vuitton, has a fortune of 140 billion euros. But he is not immune to criticism from Twitter users.

The billionaire’s company sold its own plane after a social media account started tracking his flights and tallying his carbon emissions.

“Actually, with all these stories, the group had a plane and we sold it,” Arnault told French Radio Classic. “The result now is that no one can see where I am going because I rent planes when I use private planes.

For six months, two Twitter accounts have tracked the billionaire’s travels. Together, they have amassed over 100,000 followers.

The report stated that the amount of carbon dioxide that is emitted as a result of the activities of “63 French billionaires is equivalent to what is done by 50% of the population.”

Arnault is not the only celebrity, according to a “Euro News” report, whose flight data was examined on social media.

In July, pop star Taylor Swift came under fire for her massive carbon footprint.

The total greenhouse gases resulting from industrial, service or personal emissions, and their measurement shall be in an effort to reduce the negative effects of those emissions.
