Tesla is recalling nearly 1.1 million vehicles in the United States after it discovered that its automatic window reversal system may not react properly if an obstructing object is detected, increasing the risk of injury to occupants.

The electric car maker told the National Highway Safety Administration that it will update its automatic window reversal program. The recall includes some cars of models 3, Y, S and X produced in the period between 2017 and 2022.

Tesla said it is not aware of any warranty activation requests, field reports, accidents, injuries or deaths related to the recall.

The National Safety Administration on Public Roads stated that closing the window without activating the appropriate automatic reversal system may cause the windows to close on the driver or passengers before reversing, which increases the risk of injury.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk criticized on Twitter describing the action as a summons.

“This term is outdated and inaccurate,” he said. This is a small software update. To our knowledge, there have been no injuries.”

But both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Tesla in documents announced Thursday referred to the campaign as already a recall.
