Eurozone inflation hits 9.1%, new record

The eurozone inflation rate hit a new record of 9.1 percent in August, the EU statistics agency said Wednesday, increasing pressure on the European Central Bank to hike interest rates, AFP reported.

Driven by soaring fuel prices caused by Russia’s war in Ukraine, the yearly inflation rate in the 19-country single currency area is up from 8.9 percent in July and at its highest since records began.
