Red Sea Development Company has signed a partnership agreement with the Red Sea Farms Company, a Saudi company specialized in smart farming technologies, to create a sustainable source of food resources, by utilizing sunlight and salt water.

Under this agreement, the Red Sea Farms Company will establish and operate an indoor farm to grow crops and provide a sustainable food resource for visitors and residents of the Red Sea Project, and will also become a major supplier for the luxury resorts and restaurants of the Red Sea destination.

CEO of the Red Sea Development Company John Pagano explained that the company believes in the importance of adopting new innovations, to find effective solutions to the most prominent challenges it faces, as part of its quest to protect and preserve the environment.

As such potentials are enjoyed by the advanced and first-of-its-kind technologies the Red Sea Farms Company have, which are able to address the problem of food scarcity around the world, noting that the importance of this partnership comes from this standpoint and to enable the destination to meet its goals related to sustainability and renewal.

Innovative technology uses sunlight and salt water to cool greenhouses and grow crops, instead of relying on rainwater, fresh groundwater or desalinated water, a technology designed and developed, in the Kingdom, for use in harsh environmental conditions, with up to 300 liters of fresh water per kilogram of crops produced.

And at a saving rate of up to 95% compared to other agricultural technology systems, he said, indicating that the technology will be launched for the first time on a large scale, in the Kingdom, making the Red Sea Development Company the first institution to realize its commercial potential.

Red Sea Development Company has allocated an area of ​​50 square hectares for food development, Pagano stressed, calling on leading companies from all over the world to work with them, in establishing food production facilities, in addition to testing advanced food technologies that can be used In the future, on a commercial scale, the farm will produce a variety of fresh green leafy crops, herbs, and grapes, as well as other fruits including, berries and vegetables.

After the trial launch phase, the Red Sea Farms Company will have the opportunity to increase the farm area by up to 100 hectares, in the future, making it the largest sustainable farm of its kind in the world.

It is noteworthy that the Red Sea Company had earlier entered into a partnership agreement with Blue Planet Ecosystems, to establish a project that is the first of its kind in the region, to provide sustainable marine products, the first phase of which will be implemented on an area of ​​3,500 square meters, to assess whether the weather conditions in the Red Sea project conducive to this innovative solution and to monitor its ability to operate efficiently and effectively.

Such a project will be the first commercial trial in the Middle East of the Land-based Automated Aquaculture Device (LARA).
