Al-Jafoura giant gas field is expected to turn Saudi Arabia into the third largest gas-producer, in the world, within less than a decade-long time

Al-Jafoura, the giant field, will make the Kingdom, the third largest gas producer, by 2030, the Saudi Ministry of Energy announced.

Aramco obtained approval to develop the giant field, located, in the Eastern region, ushering in a new Saudi era of gas, as a leading global player.

The Supreme Committee for Hydrocarbons, headed by HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, was briefed on the plans to develop the the field, which is the largest non-associated and non-conventional gas field, as well, discovered, in the Kingdom, with a length of 170 km and a width of 100 km.

The volume of gas resources, in the Al-Joufura field is estimated, at 200 trillion cubic feet of wet gas, including gas liquids, them most appropriate for the petrochemical and high-value condensate industries.

Investment development, at the site, amount to $110 billion (SR412 billion), and the stages of its development, in progress, will gradually increase the field’s production of gas, to reach on the development completion to 2.2 trillion cubic feet, in 2036, representing about 25% of the current total production.

Because of the field’s characteristics, it will be able to produce about 130 thousand barrels per day of ethane, representing about 40% of the current production, and about 500 thousand barrels per day of gas liquids and condensates, needed for the petrochemical industries, representing about 34% of the current production.

Remarkably, HRH Crown Prince has directed that the priority should be given to allocating the field’s production of gas and its liquids to the local sectors, in industry, electricity, water desalination, mining and other related domains, to keep abreast with the ambitious growth rates, in accordance with Kingdom Vision 2030.

HRH Crown Prince indicated that the development of the field will achieve, over 22 years from the beginning of its development, a net income for the government of about $8.6 billion (SR32 billion) per annum.

On the other hand, the development of the field will supplement Saudi Arabia’s gross domestic product, annually, with an estimated $20 billion (SR75 billion).

Development of the huge field will also lead to creating tremendous, direct and indirect job opportunities for citizens, in various sectors of the national economy, in general, and the related industries, in particular.

Al-Jafoura field put the Kingdom among the fold of the most important and significant gas producers, in the world, adding to its position as the most important oil producer, thus finding an unprecedented hydrocarbon energy producer-cum-exporter gigantic.

In addition to the Kingdom’s programs, relating to developing renewable energies, the new found giant gas field and development, is set to be utterly conducive to achieving the best mix of energy consumption, locally, and support the Kingdom record, in environmental protection and sustainability, as well.
