Saudi Arabia Secures Membership in International Transport Forum

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia clinched membership in the Council of the International Transport Forum (ITF) during the ITF in Leipzig, Germany.

Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistic Services, Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, emphasized that this achievement underscores the Kingdom’s dedication to tackling transportation challenges through innovative and sustainable solutions. It also reaffirms its pivotal role in advancing a forward-looking transport and logistics services sector on the global stage. He highlighted that Saudi Vision 2030 aims to leverage the Kingdom’s strategic location to establish itself as a premier global logistics hub.

Al-Jasser noted Saudi Arabia’s significant progress in various global logistics indices, climbing 17 spots to rank 38th globally in logistics services performance. Additionally, it secured 13th place in the IATA International Air Connectivity Index and 16th place in the maritime navigation network connectivity index. He mentioned the launch of a new airline, “Riyadh Air,” aimed at expanding the Kingdom’s connectivity to over 250 international destinations.

The Minister affirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to bolstering transport infrastructure resilience, promoting sustainable mobility, and ensuring equitable access to transport services for all. He expressed optimism about the transport and logistics sector’s substantial contribution to shaping a sustainable and comprehensive transport landscape.

Saudi Arabia’s attainment of membership in the International Transport Forum (ITF) underscores its prominence in the global transport arena. This achievement will enable the Kingdom to participate in formulating legislation and regulations to enhance and develop international transport standards.

Established in Paris in 2006, the International Transport Forum (ITF) Council comprises 66 member countries. It stands as the sole organization encompassing all modes of transportation globally, with a mission to establish international transport policies, standards, and laws while fostering the role of transport in economic growth and environmental sustainability.
