Tesla recalls 1.6 million cars in China to fix technical defects

China’s National Market Regulatory Authority said on Friday that Tesla has begun recalling 1.62 million cars, some of which are S, X, 3 and Y models, in China.

The recall comes in Tesla’s second largest market after two similar operations carried out by the company in the United States in December.

The authority stated in a statement that Tesla can update cars remotely to fix the problems that have occurred in them. This step is classified as a recall under Chinese regulations

Separately, the company will conduct a software update for about 7.5 thousand S and X cars to fix the problem of doors that can be opened in the event of accidents.

In the United States, Tesla began recalling more than two million cars to install new protection measures in the automated driver system after safety concerns pointed out by a federal regulatory body.
