Saudi Arabia, Egypt sign electric grid interconnection project worth $1.8 billion

Via virtual means, the Saudi Electricity Company and Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company have signed agreements for cables, air lines and transformer stations.

The project will connect some 3,000 gigawatts between the two Arab countries.

The Saudi-Egyptian electrical connection project is worth $1.8 billion with the actual start of implementation in 2022.

The electrical interconnection project between Egypt and Saudi Arabia aims to exchange 3000 megawatts when the project is fully completed.

The new project will enhance the exchange of electrical capabilities between Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said that said that the electrical connection between Egypt and Saudi Arabia is a step towards joint Arab action that moves to cooperate with the countries of the world in a later step.

“We are proud and determined to implement it (the project) by the highest standards and as soon as possible.” he added.

Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohammed Shaker said “Saudi-Egyptian Electrical Connection Project serves as a corridor to transfer electricity into Asia.”
