Over 457 thousand modular containers, called at them

Saudi Seaports Witness 20% Rise of Transshipment Containers, last August

The Saudi seaports experienced a rise of 20 per cent, in handling transshipment containers, in last August, alone.

As much as 814 thousand modular containers have been handled (arriving as well as departing), including the transshipment containers, which have posted a considerable rise at 20.48 per cent, or over 457 thousand modular containers.

Meanwhile the toll of goods’ handling reached over 25 million tons against a similar rise in the tally of visiting ships, at 8.12 per cent, or 1,119, in figures.

According to the Saudi Ports’ Authority reports, the seaports have made a significant rise, in terms of the overall passengers’ numbers, at 134.78 per cent, or 70 thousand, in the previous month.

In addition, it realized a rise, too, in the toll of vehicles handling, at 61.73 per cent, or 74 thousand, while the total number of livestock stood at 83 thousand heads of live cattle against more than 1.6 million tons.

Such increase in the volumes of handling, is coping with the pace of development and the national economy requirements, as well as the commercial activity, in the Kingdom.

Ongoing efforts to raise the capacity of the Saudi ports and endeavors to level up with world standards, in terms of advanced performance to meet the best practice, in terms of operational and logistics’, towards improving their competitiveness, especially, over services provided to raise the capacities of their capacities and infrastructures.

It coincided with recently launched strategic partnerships with world leading shipping lines and firms, with the aim of consolidating and bolstering the interconnection among the Saudi ports and other big port, in the East as well as the West, on the global map, to increase the handing capacity.

The Saudi Ports Authority vision is focusing on revamp the logistics services to upgrade and develop an advanced, sustainable, vibrant and vigorous maritime sector, under a national strategy for transport and logistics services, aiming at consolidating the Kingdom aspiration to become a regional as well as a world logistics hub.

Taking into consideration, that such a goal would not be realized, unless the seaports become a magnetic factor, that tract and attract huge foreign as well as local investments, to back up the Kingdom driving force moving towards unprecedented commercial and economic transformation.
