US President Donald Trump signed an executive order increasing tariffs on dozens of countries by between 10% and 41%.
Syria topped the new list, with the highest tariffs imposed on it, while tariffs on products from the European Union, Japan, and South Korea reached 15%, according to Agence France-Presse. This move aims to “restructure global trade to benefit American workers,” according to Agence France-Presse.
Trump also signed an executive order increasing tariffs on Canadian products not covered by the North American Free Trade Agreement from 25% to 35%.
The White House stated in a statement that “Canada has failed to cooperate to curb the flow of fentanyl and other drugs” into the United States and “has taken retaliatory action against the United States.”
