Tesla to Focus on AI Chip Research

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the company intends to focus its AI research efforts on developing the inference chips used to power AI models.

This comes after a media report that he ordered the disbanding of the Dojo supercomputer team, following the departure of team leader Peter Bannon from the company.

The Dojo supercomputer was built using custom training chips to process massive amounts of data and video from Tesla electric cars to train the automaker’s self-driving software.

Musk added in a post on the X platform, “It makes no sense for Tesla to split its resources and scale two completely different AI chip designs.”
