US Treasury Secretary: We’ll Make Major Trade Deals Before Tariff Deadline

US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said today that the United States is close to reaching several trade agreements before the July 9 deadline, when higher tariffs are set to begin on some trading partners.

In an interview with CNN, Besant explained that the Trump administration will also send letters to about 100 small countries with which the United States has no significant trading relationships, informing them that they will be subject to the higher tariff rates imposed on April 2 and then suspended until July 9.

Besant added: “President Trump will be sending letters to some of our trading partners, telling them that if there is no progress, the tariffs that were in place on April 2 will be reinstated on August 1. So I think we’re going to see a lot of agreements in a very short period of time.”
