The General Authority for Statistics revealed a 1.5% increase in the Industrial Production Index (IPI) during May 2025 compared to the same month of the previous year, May 2024. This increase was supported by increases in mining and quarrying activities, manufacturing activities, water supply activities, sanitation activities, and waste management and treatment activities. On a monthly basis, the index rose by 2.5%.
The Authority stated that the Mining and Quarrying sub-index rose by 2.1% during May, year-on-year, as a result of the increase in the Kingdom’s oil production during May, reaching 9.18 million barrels per day, compared to 8.99 million barrels per day in May of the previous year.
On a monthly basis, the Mining and Quarrying sub-index recorded a 2.0% increase.
She explained that the manufacturing activity sub-index rose by 0.9% year-on-year, supported by increases in the manufacturing of chemicals and chemical products, which rose by 14.0%, and the manufacturing of foodstuffs, which rose by 3.2%.
Regarding the monthly performance of the manufacturing activity sub-index, preliminary results indicate a 2.3% increase, supported by increases in the manufacturing of coke and refined petroleum products, which rose by 1.9%, and the manufacturing of chemicals and chemical products, which rose by 2.0%.
The electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply sub-index recorded a 7.7% decline, and the water supply, sanitation, and waste management and remediation sub-index recorded a 15.5% increase compared to May of the previous year. Compared to April 2025, the electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply sub-index increased by 17.6%, and the water supply, sanitation, waste management, and remediation sub-index increased by 11.2%. The oil activities index rose by 0.5% in May 2025 compared to the same month of the previous year, while the non-oil activities index rose by 3.8%. The results also indicate a 2.0% increase in the oil activities index and a 3.9% increase in the non-oil activities index compared to April 2025.
