Saudi Arabia, IAEA discuss enhancing cooperation and implementing the highest international standards for nuclear safety and security

Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Energy, discussed today in Riyadh with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), topics of mutual interest, developments in the national atomic energy program, and progress achieved in cooperation with the IAEA. They also discussed ways to enhance technical cooperation and implement the highest international standards for nuclear safety and security.

The meeting also discussed arrangements for holding the International Conference on Nuclear and Radiological Emergencies, which the Kingdom will host through the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority in Riyadh in cooperation with the IAEA in December 2025.

The meeting comes within the framework of ongoing cooperation between the Kingdom and the IAEA, which includes several areas, including the exchange of expertise and the strengthening of national capabilities in the field of nuclear and radiological energy to develop nuclear infrastructure. This will support the role of this sector in diversifying the energy mix and achieving sustainability in accordance with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
