Global smartphone shipment growth slowed during the second quarter of the year, amid consumer caution due to economic uncertainty caused by US tariffs, particularly in the low-cost device market, according to data from research firm International Data Corp.
According to preliminary data, global shipments rose just 1% between April and June to 295.2 million units, compared to a 1.5% growth in the first quarter.
IDC said smartphone demand declined in China during the second quarter, as subsidy programs failed to stimulate consumers, noting that Apple recorded a 1% decline in its sales.
