French President Calls for Firm Defense of European Interests

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed France’s “deep dismay” via Twitter following Trump’s threat to impose 30% tariffs on European goods.

The French president called on the European Commission to “accelerate preparations for credible countermeasures, mobilizing all the tools at its disposal, if no agreement is reached.”

Macron added that “France fully supports the European Commission in the negotiations, which will intensify, to reach an agreement acceptable to both sides by August 1, reflecting respect.”
