Electric vehicles exceed 15% market share in the European Union

Pure electric vehicles exceeded the 15% mark in the new car market share in the European Union during the first half of 2025, according to data released by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association.

The figures showed that the period between January and June saw the sale of approximately 5.58 million new passenger vehicles within the EU, a 1.9% decrease compared to the same period last year. Of these vehicles, 869,271 were fully electric vehicles, representing an 8% year-on-year increase, bringing their market share to 15.6%, up from 12.5% in the first half of 2024.

Hybrid vehicles accounted for the largest share of the market during the same period, accounting for 34.8%, with plug-in hybrid vehicles accounting for 8.4%. Gasoline-powered cars accounted for more than 28% of sales, while diesel cars’ share declined to approximately 10%.
