China: Non-Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) Hits 50.1 in July

Data from the National Bureau of Statistics of China showed on Thursday that the Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for China’s non-manufacturing sector fell to 50.1 in July, down from 50.5 the previous month.

The Xinhua News Agency quoted the PMI as saying that the construction sector sub-index fell to 50.6 in July, down from 52.8 the previous month. The data also revealed that the services sector sub-index fell to 50 in July.

A reading above 50 indicates expansion, while a reading below 50 reflects contraction.

Business activity indicators for sectors related to railway transport, air transport, postal services, and culture, sports, and entertainment all exceeded 60, indicating a high level of expansion.

In contrast, business activity indicators for industries including real estate and residential services were below the boom-bust line. Data also showed that China’s manufacturing purchasing managers’ index (PMI) stood at 49.3 in July.
