Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stressed that his country does not need to trade with the US and can look for other partners to make up for this shortfall.
Lula said in a radio interview: “We have to look for other partners to buy our products. Trade between Brazil and the US represents only 1.7% of GDP. It’s not as if we can’t survive without the United States.”
The Brazilian president added that countries like his country are not obligated to continue using the US dollar in their trade transactions, emphasizing the need to find ways to reduce reliance on the US currency in international trade.
US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose 50% tariffs on South American countries.
