US Revokes Technology Exemptions for Chipmakers

The Wall Street Journal revealed that the United States may revoke technology exemptions granted to some chipmakers.

A US official informed major semiconductor manufacturers that the US may revoke exemptions that allow these companies to access US technology in China, according to CNBC.

Specifically, the official informed Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. that he wants to revoke the blanket exemptions granted to these companies, according to the report.

Shares of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., listed on the US Stock Exchange, fell after the report was released, falling about 2% in late morning trading.
