Trump threatens to raise tariffs on imported cars to force companies to invest in America

US President Donald Trump has threatened to raise tariffs on cars soon in an attempt to push auto companies to increase their investments in the United States, saying, “The higher the tariffs, the more likely they are to build factories here.”

“To further defend auto workers, I have imposed a 25% tariff on all foreign cars, and I may increase these tariffs in the near future,” Trump said during a ceremony at the White House.

He added that since he imposed the first round of tariffs on imported vehicles in early May, “investment in American industry, in the auto industry, and in industry in general, has increased,” which he considered a sign of the soundness of his policy, according to Agence France-Presse.
