The Italian Public Energy Agency (ARERA) revealed in a report that the average gas price for domestic consumers in Italy rose by 15.1% in 2024, reaching 13.1 euro cents per kilowatt-hour.
According to the ARERA report, published by the Italian news agency ANSAMD today, gas bills in the country are 5.3% higher than the Eurozone average.
Conversely, Italy recorded one of the largest declines in overall electricity prices for domestic consumers, falling significantly to 35.7 euro cents per kilowatt-hour. As a result, the gap between electricity prices in Italy and the EU average narrowed to 15%, down from 24.7% in 2023.
However, the report indicated that additional fees and taxes limited potential savings for consumers. Despite the lower base prices, the final net prices paid by Italian households were 14% higher than the eurozone average, at 25.92 euro cents per kilowatt-hour compared to 22.73 euro cents per kilowatt-hour, respectively.
