India announced it has taken measures to protect domestic fuel supplies, as global markets grapple with fears of rising energy prices and supply disruptions, particularly from the Middle East.
Indian Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said via the X platform that his country has been monitoring geopolitical developments in the Middle East for more than two weeks, adding that India has worked over the past years to diversify its oil sources, and that a large portion of our supplies no longer pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
This strait is a vital passageway through which approximately 20% of global oil and gas demand passes, making it one of the most sensitive points in the global energy market.
