An analysis by the consulting and auditing firm EU indicates that the ongoing economic crisis has cost the German industrial sector more than 100,000 jobs in a year.
According to the report, seen by the German Press Agency, approximately 45,400 jobs were eliminated in the automotive sector.
By the end of the first quarter, the industrial sector employed 5.46 million people—a decrease of 1.8%, or 101,000 jobs, compared to the previous year, according to the study, which was based on data from the Federal Statistical Office.
Since before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019, the number of employed people has decreased by 217,000, a decrease of 3.8%. In 2018, the German industrial sector reached a record high of approximately 5.7 million workers.
