2024 report issued by Open Data Watch, rising to 41st place globally out of 197 countries, advancing 28 places compared to the 2022 assessment. The Kingdom also advanced from 15th place to 9th place among G20 countries in the 2024 report compared to the previous report, reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to enhancing transparency and accessibility of statistical data. The ODIN report is based on two main components: the degree of coverage, which measures the comprehensiveness and diversity of official statistics, and the degree of accessibility and usability of statistics. In its official report, Open Data Watch commended the significant progress achieved by the Kingdom, considering this progress the result of continuous efforts and commendable qualitative initiatives. Its score in data coverage rose by 16 points and its score in accessibility rose by 15 points, achieving a 143% increase in the overall score since 2017. This confirms the Kingdom’s commitment to adopting global best practices in the field of open data.

This national achievement is the result of the efforts of the General Authority for Statistics, which leads the national statistical work system by developing statistical products and launching strategic indicators supporting Saudi Vision 2030. It also expanded the provision of open data and facilitated access to it through official digital platforms.

In the context of achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, the Authority strengthened its strategy to develop its technical infrastructure and enable government agencies, the private sector, and researchers to use statistics to support strategic planning and decision-making. The Authority’s efforts also contributed to promoting a culture of transparency and the availability of statistics, and raising community awareness of their importance as a key driver of sustainable development and innovation. This progress in the organization’s report reflects the Kingdom’s growing status as a regional and global hub for providing official statistical indicators, consolidating its role in building a sustainable, knowledge-based economy, enhancing transparency, supporting investment attraction, and keeping pace with the rapid digital transformations the world is witnessing.
