News reports have revealed that American electric car manufacturer Tesla’s sales in Europe fell by 49% due to a damaged brand and increased competition.
According to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association, Tesla sold 7,261 vehicles in Europe in April, a 49% year-on-year decline.
This decline came even as battery electric vehicle sales rose 34.1% year-on-year in April.
Tesla has faced damage to its brand over the past few months due to CEO Elon Musk’s political engagement with US President Donald Trump, with protests at Tesla dealerships growing across Europe in March.
Tesla sales fell by nearly 40% year-on-year during the January-April period.
While the company launched an updated version of its Model Y SUV this year, its overall lineup remains aging, and no new mass-market offerings have been revealed yet.
