SAMA: Banks’ Claims to the Private Sector Increased by 1.8% at the end of March

Banks’ claims to the private sector increased by 1.8% at the end of March 2025 compared to total claims at the end of February 2025, reaching SAR 2.987 trillion in March 2025, compared to SAR 2.933 trillion in February 2025.

The monthly statistical bulletin issued by the Saudi Central Bank indicated that banks’ claims to the private sector are divided between bank credit and investments in private securities. Total bank credit reached SAR 2.884 trillion at the end of March 2025, compared to SAR 2.828 trillion at the end of February 2025. Bank credit is divided into loans, advances, and overdrafts, reaching SAR 2.864 trillion at the end of March 2025, compared to SAR 2.808 trillion at the end of February 2025. Meanwhile, banks’ claims on discounted bills of exchange reached SAR 2.864 trillion at the end of March 2025, compared to SAR 2.808 trillion at the end of February 2025. SAR 20.612 billion by the end of March 2025, compared to SAR 19.827 billion in February 2025.

The bulletin stated that banks’ liabilities to the private sector for private securities investments amounted to SAR 103.171 billion by the end of March 2025, compared to SAR 105.120 billion by the end of February 2025.

According to the bulletin, banks’ liabilities to the private sector recorded an increase on an annual basis, reaching SAR 2.987 trillion by the end of March 2025, compared to SAR 2.599 trillion by the end of March 2024. Bank credit liabilities amounted to SAR 2.884 trillion by the end of March 2025, compared to SAR 2.510 trillion by the end of March 2024. Meanwhile, banks’ liabilities to the private sector for private securities investments amounted to SAR 103.171 billion by the end of March 2025, compared to SAR 88.606 billion by the end of March 2024.

It also explained that total bank credit liabilities to public institutions reached SAR 217.327 billion in March 2025, compared to SAR 157.469 billion in March 2024. Meanwhile, government and quasi-government bond liabilities reached SAR 612.575 billion in March 2025, compared to SAR 606.509 billion in February 2025. 612.575 billion riyals in March 2025 compared to 550.734 billion riyals in March 2024.
