Data revealed that foreign holdings of US Treasuries exceeded $9 trillion in March. Data from the US Treasury Department on Friday showed that foreign holdings of US Treasuries rose to a record high in March, rising for the third consecutive month, as demand for US government debt remained strong just months after President Donald Trump took office.
Holdings of US Treasuries reached $9.05 trillion in March, an all-time high and an increase of more than $233 billion from $8.81 trillion in February. Compared to the previous year, foreign-held Treasuries rose by about 12%. Analysts said this trend could change in April as a result of the Trump administration’s massive trade shock on April 2, which saw a rise in effective tariff rates, particularly on Chinese goods.
