China’s exports rose in April, driven by a surge in shipments to Southeast Asian countries, offsetting a sharp decline in goods exported to the United States after heavy tariffs were implemented last month.
Exports jumped 8.1% in US dollar terms in April compared to a year earlier, according to customs data released Friday, far outpacing a 1.9% increase, according to Reuters.
Imports, on the other hand, fell 0.2% in April compared to a year earlier, better than economists’ expectations of a 5.9% decline.
