The Financial Times revealed that China’s largest technology companies have begun a process of switching to domestically produced chips amid dwindling inventory of Nvidia processors and tightening US export restrictions.
The report cited industry executives as saying that Alibaba, Tencent, and Baidu are among the companies that have begun testing alternative semiconductors to meet growing domestic demand for AI technology.
Nvidia shares jumped 23% after the company announced upbeat sales results late Wednesday, driven by customers stockpiling AI chips ahead of US export restrictions on China.
