The US Department of Justice has reached an agreement with Boeing that allows the company to avoid criminal prosecution for misleading US regulators about the 737 MAX aircraft before two crashes that killed 346 people, according to court documents filed Friday.
The Justice Department said in a court filing that it reached a “tentative agreement” requiring the company to pay and invest more than $1.1 billion.
In exchange, the department will drop its criminal case against the aircraft manufacturer. The agreement has yet to be finalized.
