The Taiwanese government announced $8.74 billion in financial aid for businesses and industries to cope with the impact of US tariffs, including export credits.
At a press conference in Taipei, Premier Chou Jung-tai reiterated that the government considers the tariffs unreasonable, saying it will provide NT$88 billion to help affected businesses.
Speaking alongside Chou, Finance Minister Chuang Tsui-yun said the government will also provide NT$200 billion in trade financing to exporters.
US President Donald Trump announced sweeping import tariffs on Wednesday, with much higher duties for dozens of trading partners, including Taiwan, which has a large trade surplus with the United States and faces 32% tariffs on its products.
