Samsung Electronics announced that its operating profit for the first quarter of 2025 was significantly higher than expected, driven by higher sales of memory chips and smartphones, amid customer concerns about looming US tariffs.
The Korean giant forecast operating profit of $4.49 billion for the January-March period, exceeding analysts’ forecasts and estimates from the London Stock Exchange Group’s Analytical Services report.
The improvement came despite a decline in conventional memory chip prices, as concerns about Washington’s imposition of new tariffs on semiconductors prompted some customers to purchase additional chips to secure their future needs.
