China pledges support for businesses hit by tariffs

China’s top policymakers have pledged support for businesses and workers most affected by the impact of triple-digit US tariffs, the ruling party’s Politburo said today.

The Politburo, the country’s top policymaking body, confirmed plans to accelerate debt issuance, ease monetary policy, and provide support to employers to preserve jobs, part of efforts to achieve internal stability as China prepares for a protracted trade war with the United States.

“The foundations for sustainable economic recovery in China must be strengthened as the impact of external shocks increases,” the official Xinhua news agency reported of the Politburo meeting on Friday.

“We will strive to stabilize employment, businesses, markets, and expectations, and counter the uncertainties brought about by rapid external changes with the certainty of high-quality development,” the report added.
