The Financial Times revealed today that Apple plans to move the assembly of all iPhones sold in the United States to India as soon as next year.
This comes as US President Donald Trump’s trade war forces the tech giant to shift away from China, according to Reuters.
Customs data showed that Foxconn and Tata, Apple’s main suppliers in India, shipped nearly $2 billion worth of iPhones to the United States in March, an all-time high. The US company flew the devices to avoid looming tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump.
The smartphone maker has ramped up production in India and chartered flights to transport 600 tons of iPhones to the United States to ensure sufficient inventory in one of its largest markets, fearing that Trump’s tariffs would lead to higher costs.
