New York Times: Bill Gates Lays Off Climate Group He Funds in Preparation for Trump

News reports revealed that a climate group funded by Bill Gates is cutting its staff in a significant decline, according to The New York Times.

The newspaper noted that Breakthrough Energy, an umbrella group for energy and environmental efforts funded by Bill Gates, is preparing to reorganize itself in preparation for the Trump era.

According to people familiar with the matter who were not authorized to speak publicly, dozens of employees have been laid off, including the company’s European unit, its U.S. public policy team, and most of its employees working on partnerships with other climate organizations.

This change, according to the newspaper, demonstrates how Gates is reorganizing his empire in preparation for the Trump era. With Republicans controlling both houses of Congress and the White House, Gates believes Breakthrough’s US policy team will likely have little influence in Washington, according to informed sources.
