Canada’s tariffs on US imports took effect on Thursday, in response to US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, including those from Canada.
These Canadian tariffs, valued at approximately 29 billion Canadian dollars (equivalent to 20 billion dollars), target a wide range of US products, including steel, aluminum, computers, and sporting goods.
The US administration’s 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum imports took effect at dawn on Wednesday, paving the way for a new phase of trade escalation.
These tariffs affect imports from countries such as Canada, China, the European Union, Japan, and Australia. President Trump maintains that his goal is to boost US iron and steel production, which has been declining year after year amid fierce competition, particularly from Asian countries.
