Japanese stocks close steady

Japanese stocks closed steady on Monday, as a slight rise in Wall Street’s three major indexes last week slightly boosted market sentiment, but investors remained cautious as the imminent imposition of new US tariffs loomed.

The Nikkei 225 index closed flat at 37,676.97, supported by buying of some blue-chip stocks.

The broader Topix index fell 0.3% to 2,794.67 after hitting an eight-month high at the end of last week.
