The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture revealed that dairy products record a remarkable abundance in the markets, with a production exceeding (2.6) million tons; which reflects its vital role in meeting the needs of consumers during the holy month of Ramadan.
This came during the awareness campaign launched by the Ministry in conjunction with the advent of the month of Ramadan, under the title “Our Journey from Our Land”; It aims to encourage the consumption of local dairy products and their derivatives, such as cream, yogurt, milk, and other dairy derivatives, and to enhance the role of farmers and producers in achieving food security, indicating its efforts to support national production, and raise the quality and safety of food products, which includes the continuity of their availability during the holy month.
The Ministry explained during its campaign that the Kingdom achieved a self-sufficiency rate in dairy products of up to (129%) during 2023 AD; This enhances its position as one of the producing countries in the dairy and dairy products sector, stressing its commitment to developing the quality of the sector by supporting local investments, ensuring the availability of products in the markets, and raising the quality of supply, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030. The Ministry stated that the livestock sector is a fundamental pillar in supporting dairy production in the Kingdom, as it includes more than (7.4) million heads of goats, with approximately (502) thousand heads of cows, which contributes to meeting the needs of the local market for dairy and dairy products, explaining that the sector is witnessing remarkable development through the adoption of the latest technologies in livestock breeding and animal production, which enhances production efficiency and ensures the sustainability of resources. It is noteworthy that the campaign aims to raise community awareness of the importance of rationalizing food consumption, reducing waste, and promoting a culture of optimal utilization of available food resources. The campaign also seeks to encourage the consumption of local products and support national farmers and producers to ensure the sustainability of food production and enhance food security in the Kingdom.
