China firmly opposes new US tariffs, vows countermeasures to safeguard interests

China has expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the US decision to impose an additional 10% tariff on Chinese imports.

“China will take countermeasures to resolutely safeguard its rights and interests,” Xinhua news agency quoted a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce as saying.

The spokesperson pointed out that China is among the countries with the strictest anti-drug policies in the world, noting that China and the United States have achieved remarkable results in extensive and in-depth anti-drug cooperation.

However, the United States has been blaming China, and using the fentanyl issue as an excuse to impose additional tariffs on Chinese exports.

The spokesperson considered that “what the US side has done is a typical act of unilateralism and bullying in disregard of the facts, international trade rules, and the positions of all parties.”
