Gita Gopinath, the first deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund, said on Friday that it is too early to talk about any detailed analysis of the implications of the increase in US tariffs on other countries.
Gopinath said at a news conference that “it is in the interest of all countries to work together, resolve differences and ensure an environment conducive to international trade.” Gopinath was responding to a question about the potential impact of global trade tensions and US President Donald Trump’s threats to impose higher tariffs on other countries, including Japan, according to Reuters.
The International Monetary Fund said yesterday that it is closely following developments in the United States, including moves by the Trump administration to cut foreign aid and impose tariffs on China, but it is too early to provide clear assessments of the impact of these moves.
