European stocks open mixed as global markets remain subdued

European markets opened mixed on Tuesday as global markets remained subdued. The pan-European Stoxx 600 index rose 0.10% to 553.92 points.

Germany’s DAX fell 0.15% to 22,390.75 points after gaining 0.6% in the previous session.

UK’s FTSE 100 rose 0.12% to 8,669.01 points, while France’s CAC 40 fell 0.11% to 8,082.09 points.

A number of companies are due to report their financial results, including Fresenius Medical Care, Smith & Nephew, Heidelberg Materials and Alcon. On the data front, a more detailed picture of German GDP performance in the fourth quarter will be published on Tuesday.

European markets traded mixed at the start of the week, as investors reacted to the results of the German federal elections.
