The European Commission said on Monday it would respond to protect the interests of the European Union after US President Donald Trump announced imminent tariffs on metal imports, but added that it would not respond until it received a detailed or written explanation of the measures.
The commission said in a statement: “The EU sees no reason to impose tariffs on its exports. We will respond to protect the interests of European companies, workers and consumers from unjustified measures.”
President Trump said on Sunday he would impose new tariffs of 25 percent on all steel and aluminum imports into the United States.
