Fangchengbao, the new off-road brand of Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD, today launched smart versions of its hybrid Bao 5 SUV.
The Bao 5, which is equipped with BYD’s advanced driver assistance system Good’s Eye, starts at 239,800 yuan ($33,000).
Last week, BYD introduced 21 models equipped with Good’s Eyes in its best-selling Ocean and Dynasty series, a move analysts said was set to start a new price war.
China overtook Japan in 2023 as the world’s largest auto exporter, but its electric vehicle exports have faced tariffs from the United States and the European Union, with the EU imposing a 17 percent tariff on BYD’s electric vehicles.
Tariffs do not negatively impact good products, Wang said in an interview with Yuyuan Tantian, a social media account affiliated with China Radio and Television Corporation, adding that consumer demand is motivating the electric vehicle maker to overcome various difficulties.
