Trump repeats his (joke) about exempting Ottawa from customs tariffs if it merges with America

After Justin Trudeau, the Canadian Prime Minister, announced his resignation from the government, Donald Trump, the US President-elect, repeated his (joke) that he would exempt Canada from customs tariffs if it merged with the United States.

Trudeau traveled to Mar-a-Lago last week after Trump threatened to impose comprehensive customs tariffs on Canadian products.

Trump had threatened to impose customs duties on imports from Canada when he returns to the White House, unless Canada limits the flow of immigrants and the drug fentanyl to the United States.

Tonight, a joint session of the two chambers of the US Congress (the Senate and the House of Representatives) will be held to approve Trump’s victory to take office on January 20.

Ironically, Trump’s opponent in last November’s election, Kamala Harris, will, according to the Constitution, have to preside over the session to certify his election victory as the current vice president.
