Spanish Super Cup in Jeddah is the highest “Super” tournament in the world by market value

Tonight, the competitions of the Spanish Super Cup 2024, which the Kingdom is hosting for the fifth time in the city of Jeddah, conclude, as King Abdullah Sports City Stadium hosts the final match between the two giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, after the former defeated Athletic Bilbao in the semi-finals with two clean goals, and the capital club qualified from Real Mallorca with three clean goals.

The Spanish Super Cup in Jeddah this season topped the list of Super Cup competitions worldwide, in terms of market value, whether it is limited to bringing together the league and cup champions, or the second-place winners in both tournaments participate with them. The value of this edition exceeded 2.69 billion euros, the market value of Real Madrid reached 1.23 billion euros, which participates as the champion of the Spanish League 2024, and the market value of Barcelona players reached 1.02 billion euros, which participates as the runner-up of the league, while Athletic Bilbao, the champion of the Spanish King’s Cup, the market value of its players reaches 356 million euros, in addition to Real Mallorca, the runner-up of the Cup, whose players’ market value reaches 85.4 billion euros. This year’s Italian Super Cup, also held in the Kingdom, comes in second place on the list of the highest Super Cup competitions in terms of market value, with the value of the players in the tournament hosted by Riyadh amounting to 2.3 billion euros. It is followed in third place by the English Community Shield (formerly the Charity Shield) with a market value of 2.01 billion euros, followed by the French Super Cup with a market value of 1.25 billion euros, then fifthly by the German Super Cup with a market value of 943 million euros, followed by the Portuguese Super Cup with a market value of players of 834.2 million euros, then the Dutch with 654.65 million euros. The Saudi Diriyah Super Cup, held in Abha in 2024, ranked eighth in the list of the most valuable super leagues in the world, with the market value of the players of the four clubs (Al-Hilal, Al-Nasr, Al-Ahli, Al-Taawoun) reaching about 507 million euros, according to the Transfer Market network, followed by the Swiss Super Cup with a market value of about 412 million euros, and then the Turkish Super Cup in tenth place with a market value of 390 million euros.

The Kingdom’s hosting of the Spanish Super Cup competitions represents an embodiment of the continuous achievements of the sports sector in the Kingdom by hosting the largest sporting events and activities on the continental and international levels. This comes within the “Quality of Life” program in line with the efforts made to achieve the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which has contributed significantly to the development of the sports sector and its support for growth and prosperity in all fields.

It is noteworthy that Saudi Arabia witnessed Real Madrid winning the Super Cup title 3 times, while Barcelona only won it once in Saudi Arabia, as the first edition was in 2020 in the city of Jeddah, and Real Madrid won the title at that time, then the tournament moved to the capital in its second edition, and Real Madrid also won it in 2022, while in the third edition, Barcelona won the Spanish title after defeating its competitor Real Madrid, and Real Madrid returned to achieve the fourth edition in Riyadh at the beginning of this year 2024, with hopes of achieving the fourteenth Super Cup title and equaling Barcelona’s record, which it surpassed in winning the championship since 2010.
