Saudi Local production of vegetables provides 80.6% of total needs

The General Authority for Statistics issued today, Wednesday, the Agricultural and Fisheries Accounts Bulletin 2023, and according to the results of the bulletin, the percentage of reliance on local production of vegetables amounted to 80.6% of the total supply (supplies of vegetables).

While the percentage of reliance on fruits amounted to 63.7% of the total supply (supplies of fruits), as for grains, the percentage of reliance on local production available for consumption amounted to 14.8%, and the bulletin stated that the total local production of agricultural crops in the Kingdom amounted to 38 billion and 332 million riyals in 2023 AD.

The results of the bulletin indicated that the total supply (supplies) of fish was 377 thousand tons, and the percentage of local production was 56.9% distributed between marine fishing and fish farming, while fish imports amounted to 43.1%, while the value of production from fish wealth amounted to 5 billion and 189 million riyals, at a rate of 24 thousand riyals per ton of fish and its products. The results also showed that the percentage of change in marine fishing in the same year amounted to 19% compared to the reference period of 2000-2020 AD.

The results of the bulletin showed that the percentage of local production of cows was 67.4% of the total supply (supplies), while the percentage of camel production amounted to 76% of the total supply (supplies) with a local production quantity of 702 thousand heads, and the average value of the head was 6 thousand riyals, while the average value of local production of sheep and goats amounted to 1,250 riyals per head.

With regard to livestock assets, the growth in livestock (livestock) amounted to 1,234 thousand heads, and the growth rate of goats was the highest at 51.8% of the total growth in livestock, as the final balance amounted to 7 million and 418 thousand heads of goats, followed by camels with a growth of 210 thousand heads during 2023 AD.

It is noteworthy that the Agricultural and Fisheries Accounts Bulletin provides data on asset accounts, as well as quantitative and monetary data on plant, animal and fish wealth in the Kingdom, to organize data and analyze the relationship between the environment and economic activities related to agriculture and fisheries.
